Senegal is Defeated by England's Rampaging Lions 3-0 in the World Cup
Easily defeating the African champs sets up a quarterfinal matchup with France.

England easily overcame Senegal 3-0 to advance to the World Cup quarterfinals in Qatar and a highly anticipated matchup with France.
Harry Kane scored his first goal of the tournament in the final play of the first half on Sunday at Al Bayt Stadium, adding to Jordan Henderson's opening goal from the 38th minute.
A third goal was scored in the 65th minute by Bukayo Saka.
The African champions Senegal had their chances, most notably through Watford attacker Ismaila Sarr, but they did not represent a big threat to England.

After the game, England manager Gareth Southgate told ITV, "The team has made a very tough game tonight appear straight-forward."
With his 52nd goal, while wearing an England jersey, Kane is now just one goal behind Wayne Rooney for the nation's all-time leading scorer status. With 11 goals, the skipper surpassed Gary Lineker's record as England's leading scorer in major competitions.
Senegal had two solid opportunities before Henderson's opening goal, so England was fortunate to avoid conceding early on. Sarr earned the first significant opportunity, beating Jordan Pickford to the ball before blazing it over the goalmouth.
As Boulaye Dia sent a strong shot at goal, forcing Pickford into a left-handed save, Sarr also contributed to Senegal's first shot on goal.

After Henderson's goal, England expanded their play into a commanding performance in the second half, looking more like a team chasing their first major title since winning the World Cup in front of a home audience in 1966. The first half hour was tight and tense, but England regained their footing.
Both Saka, 21, and Jude Bellingham, 19, had significant contributions throughout the entire game.
We believe it is appropriate to give our extremely young players a chance, according to Southgate. They are moving in the right direction, and these games have given them wonderful life experiences.

With 12 goals in this competition, England has tied its previous World Cup record set in 2018, when they advanced to the semifinals in Russia. They scored 11 goals in 1966, including four against West Germany in the championship game.
Senegal's remarkable 2022 campaign, which saw them win the Africa Cup of Nations and advance to the round of 16 at the World Cup, came to an end with the outcome.
The following game between England and France will take place on Saturday at Al Bayt stadium.
Kylian Mbappe, the number 10 player for France, scored twice in their round of 16 encounters against Poland on Sunday to tie the 35-year-old Argentina great Lionel Messi's World Cup goal total of nine.
